What We Fund

The Helis Foundation Ovation Program

NOBA Ovation Program

Since 1992, the New Orleans Ballet Association (NOBA) has made the art of dance accessible to underserved youth and their families with over 5,000 tuition-free dance classes and activities annually provided through meaningful partnerships with institutions in neighborhoods throughout the Greater New Orleans area. NOBA’s nationally award-winning, tuition-free program offers a clear path for a child to enter a community center and receive the instruction necessary until the age of 18 to prepare them for careers in dance.

The Helis Foundation Ovation Program was created to eliminate the barriers for participants of these programs to attend performances by the world-renowned dance companies on NOBA’s Main Stage Series. The Ovation Program makes it possible for NOBA’s families to share these magical evenings together at the Mahalia Jackson Theater, sparking the imagination, motivating and inspiring dancers of all ages, and cultivating a lifelong appreciation of the art form.

In 2019, 715 tickets were distributed to tuition-free NOBA participants and their families to attend Main Stage Series performances. Additionally, The Helis Foundation supported a special matinee just for the community of the world renowned Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater on March 23, 2019, making it possible for over 2,000 underserved families to see this legendary company.

“Thank you to The Helis Foundation for making these tickets accessible to the families and dancers of NOBA. Your help allows us to expand our knowledge of dance by witnessing exceptional companies such as DIAVOLO.” –Sofia, NOBA student, age 14

“I really appreciate your donation which has enabled me and my sister to come see these amazing dancers we otherwise would not have been able to see. Thank you Helis Foundation!” –Stella, NOBA student, age 10
